Apparently I’m not the only one.
After watching the Macworld Expo videos, I was psyched to upgrade my iPhone to 1.13. Well, loaded up iTunes, downloaded the software — it ran through only to give me an error message with something like “unknown error”.
After attempting to hit recovery mode and get my device back, I get another unknown error. I guess I’m off to the Mac store tomorrow to have the genius bar take a look. I had zero issues with the device until this, was 100% happy, it was everything I’d been looking for in a mobile device and more.
I’ll let you know how it turns out – right now I’m pretty upset at Apple for releasing something which bricked my device. I did not install any outside apps to my device either. Shame, that MacBook Air device looked pretty cool too, but none of my PC’s ever returned an unknown error and then were not restorable in some manner.
Update: Success! After removing iTunes and reinstalling, then restarting my system I got the iPhone to return to factory settings and then startup on version 1.13. Unfortunately I never bothered to backup my photos off the iPhone because I figured they were pretty safe there – oh well, camera phone pictures are just snapshots for fun I suppose. Also lost a bunch of new contacts because I’ve been super busy and haven’t gotten to sync in a bit.
All that aside, a dart to Apple mostly for making me go through 30 minutes of terror with a bricked device.
